Date: January 18th, 2025
Time: 1:00PM - 3:00PM EST
Virtual Workshop
ARE YOU CURIOUS ABOUT TERRA SIGILLATA? DO YOU WANT TO LEARN HOW TO MAKE IT, APPLY IT, AND CREATE WITH COLOR?
The Unlocking Terra Sigillata workshop will give you the skills and confidence you need to make and use Terra Sigillata* in your studio with simple tools you likely already have on hand.
This virtual workshop will focus on both the technical aspects of making, applying, and burnishing Terra Sigillata, and will teach you how to create custom colors, layered applications, and weathered surfaces that bring personality to your pots. While Terra Sigillata is historically used on earthenware at low temperatures, this workshop will also explore uses for mid and high fired ceramics. We’ll also be covering how Terra Sigillata and glaze interact.

Interested In Hosting a Workshops?
Contact me if you would like to host a workshop, and I would be happy to forward more information on scheduling & pricing. Workshops can be customized for any number of days at any venue (art center, pottery studio, guild, university, or college). Below are some sample descriptions.
Workshops can be hands-on or lecture/demo only and typically include:
Slide presentation of my work (past & current) plus images of other people in the field using craft cutters to make amazing work.
Demonstrations of various surface decoration techniques, including using digitally cut stencils, making heat transfer vinyl silkscreens (for underglaze transfers, direct print on clay and more). For workshops with a hands-on component, I come prepared with precut materials that I encourage folks to test out.
Demonstrations on file prep, software interfaces, and using a craft cutter to cut various materials.
Discussions about what craft cutter suits your needs, how to create or find images to cut, materials to cut, and how they can be used to create dynamic ceramic surfaces.
Question and answer sessions are my favorite part about teaching, longer hands-on workshops may include one-on-one discussions and ideas, and process.
