FAQ
How long will it take to get my order?
Generally, orders ship within 3-7 days (apart from custom or international orders). Even pre-orders usually ship out quickly, but I do not guarantee it. I am a small solo entrepreneur, it is just me designing, cutting, marketing, packing, shipping and customer service. I will do my best to ship your orders quickly. (See Made-to-Order lead times for information on how long it could take if I run into production issues or have an emergency, get busy in the studio making pots, or am traveling to teach workshops.
Please NOTE: During new product launches and shop updates, expect some delays due to the volume of orders. Thank you for your patience during these times!
What are lead times for Made-to-Order products?
Made-to-Order items are shipped on the 15th day of the following month. For example, if you place an order on August 1st, your order will be shipped on September 15th, and if you order on August 31st, your order will still ship on September 15th.
Do you ship Internationally?
Yes, I ship stencils internationally using USPS First Class Mail without tracking. I have been adding countries one by one so if your location is not on the list send me an email and I will add it. Shalya Marsh Studios has shipped stencils to nearly a dozen countries.
Unfortunately, I cannot ship the wooden molds and press plates internationally at a reasonable cost. The shipping options for packages are typically between $25-30, and this does not cover any fees or duties that also may be assessed. If you are willing to pay that amount, I can absolutely ship you press plates and drop molds. Send me an email with your order and shipping address and I will send you a custom invoice including shipping and handling charges.
How thick are the tar paper stencils?
SMS tar paper stencils are made from 30# roofing felt (also called underlayment or tar paper). It is .03 inches thick (.1mm).
Are the stencils reusable?
Yes, SMS Stencils can be used repeatedly. Their lifespan is affected by the way they are cared for. See Stencil Care Instructions for more information.
Can I use tar paper stencils to apply slip and underglaze?
YES, you can but I do not recommend it. Using tar paper stencils to apply slip and underglaze will shorten their lifespan. For slip and underglaze applications I recommend using our Tyvek stencils (coming soon).
How do I use my Press Plates and Drop Molds?
Check out these simple drop mold and press plate use and care instructions.
Can you cut my design for me?
Yes, but it will cost you. Check out my custom work page (coming soon) for information about requesting a quote and what to expect.
What cutter and software are best for me?
I have a free handout that addresses this exact question. Check it out!
Here is the short version, I am a fan of the Silhouette Cameo and the Business Edition of Silhouette Studio software. It is a powerful machine and great software. If you don't like computers or technology, then the Cricut Maker (or the Joy) is a good place to start. The Cricut design software is limited but there are lots of tutorials online and it is a simpler program. You can always start by using the Silhouette Studio software and export designs as vector files so they can be cut on a Cricut. I have both cutters, and I always use the Silhouette Software because it is a much more powerful tool for designing.
